Accelerated Programs

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences offers students the opportunity to participate in accelerated programs to prepare them for their future careers. Students seeking admissions to graduate school should consider combined programs offered, and those preparing to enter the medical or dental field should consider entering the Honors Combined B.S./D.M.D. Program or the Junior Honors Medical Program.

Combined Degrees

The university has created combined degree programs to provide academically talented students an opportunity to complete a bachelor's and a master's degree in a shorter period of time. These programs allow students to double-count graduate courses for both degrees, thus reducing the time it would normally take by a semester or more. Most combined degree programs produce a savings of up to 12 semester hours.

Junior Honors Medical

Students interested in a fast-track to medical school should check out the Junior Honors Medical Program. Students apply for this highly-competitive program in the second semester of their second year of undergraduate study. If selected, students begin coursework in medical school in their third year, and then enter the MD program in their fourth year. After completion of the first year of medical school, students earn their B.S. Although you can start out in any major before applying to Junior Honors, if accepted, you must change your major to either Nutritional Sciences in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences or to the Interdisciplinary Studies major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to complete the program.

Honors Combined BS/DMD Program

At the University of Florida, a special opportunity exists for incoming freshmen students who intend to pursue a career in dentistry. Through a cooperative agreement between the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the College of Dentistry, qualified students may be provisionally admitted to the preprofessional program leading to the D.M.D. following their freshman year. The Honors Combined B.S/D.M.D. program is designed to help highly motivated students complete their B.S. degree in either Food Science and Human Nutrition or Microbiology and Cell Science and their D.M.D. degree in a shorter time period than traditional programs. This special program is offered only through the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Admission criteria can be found on the College of Dentistry website.

Doctor of Pharmacy/Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences

If you are considering a career as a Pharmacist but think the two-year prepharmacy curriculum isn't quite right for you, consider earning a combined B.S./ through the Nutritional Sciences program. By majoring in Nutritional Sciences, you can complete your prerequisites for admission to the UF College of Pharmacy along with most of the requirements for the major in three years. After your first year in the UF PharmD program, you will earn your B.S.
