Graduate Academic Programs

The University encourages applications from qualified applicants of both sexes from all cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic groups.

CALS offers graduate study in many areas of concentration in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), School of Forest Resources and Conservation and School of Natural Resources and Environment. Thesis and non-thesis master's programs are available. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is offered in eighteen areas of study. About 345 faculty members have specific appointments in teaching; they and many other faculty members are involved in teaching and directing graduate research. Most of the faculty members have joint appointments in research or extension, a significant asset to the teaching program.

Interdisciplinary programs among the departments in CALS and with other University departments provide the student with an excellent combination of educational programs. Programs like the plant molecular and cellular biology degree program allow students to plan his or her program with the advice and assistance of a supervisory committee.

Academic units have well-equipped laboratories, animal facilities, greenhouses, field plots and field laboratories, and other facilities for study and research. Opportunities for specialized work are available through the eighteen agricultural research and educational centers located throughout the state. CALS participates in other research programs, including the Center for Tropical Agriculture, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Florida Water Resources Research Center, the Center for Biomass Energy Systems, and the Florida Sea Grant College Program. In addition, departments have cooperative projects with state and federal agencies that support graduate student research, as well as grant support from private and commercial organizations.
