- Six CALS faculty received the Teacher Fellow Award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) organization at its annual conference on June 19.
UF recipients were Lisa House, food and resource economics; Traci Irani, agricultural education and communication; Gail Kauwell, food science and human nutrition; Alan Long, School of Forest Resources and Conservation;
Brian Myers, agricultural education and communication; and Grady Roberts, agricultural education and communication. - Andrew Thoron, doctoral student in agricultural education, received the NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award on June 19.
- Matthew Vann, BS '09 environmental management in agriculture and natural resources; Kelly Monaghan, BS'09 family, youth and community sciences; and Kristen Kovalsky, food and resource economics senior,
recently visited South Valley University - Qena as part of the CALS Ambassador study abroad trip to Egypt.
While there, they participated in a recognition ceremony for a book drive CALS students completed in 2008. They are pictured here with the dean of the faculty of agriculture at South Valley University - Qena.
The Agricultural and Life Sciences College Council collected more than 7,200 books and journals which were shipped to South Valley University - Qena. - Josh Carter, Brian Myers, Ed Osborne and Bryan Terry won the CALS Alumni and Friends 7th annual golf tournament on May 29.
- Ashley Allen and Brady Revels, both agricultural education and communication juniors, and Vivian Christmas, food and resource economics
senior, were selected as the inaugural recipients of the Loop Legislative InternshipProgram for Summer 2009. - Fifteen CALS Ambassadors completed a 12-day study abroad trip to Egypt on May 15.
The trip served as an opportunity for students to compare and contrast US and Egyptian agricultural production, processing and marketing systems as well as higher education programs. They are pictured at the Karnak Temple in Luxor.

College of Agricultural and Life Sciences
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) administers the degree programs of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). IFAS is a federal, state, and local government partnership dedicated to develop knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. With 24 undergraduate majors, more than 50 areas of specialization and 20 graduate programs, CALS is an educational leader in the areas of food, agriculture, natural resources and life sciences.

The mission of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a high quality education that results in knowledge and abilities for gainful employment and additional education, productive citizenship, and lifelong learning in the areas of food, agriculture, natural resources, and life sciences as they relate to human resources, the environment, individual communities, and a global society. CALS is the teaching arm of UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. IFAS includes the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station which administers and supports research programs in UF/IFAS and Extension which provides Floridians with lifelong learning programs.
